THE PRESS GANG: ROCKIN' AND ROLLICKIN' SONGS OF CORNWALL AND THE SEA

We’ve been entertaining audiences and making friends around the county - and beyond - since 2012 inspired by the tradition of Cornish pub singing and the songs of, among others, Harry Glasson, Tom Lewis, and the Fisherman's Friends. We have developed our own energetic and distinctive style, and audiences enjoy the passion and humour in our performances and the unique harmonies and arrangements of our songs.

We’ve sung in theatres, clubs and festivals all over Cornwall and at venues that have varied from a Greenpeace ship to Gatwick Airport and the Hall for Cornwall. We have become regular guests at shanty festivals around Cornwall and events such as the Falmouth International Shanty Festival, Ilfracombe Maritime Festival and hosted several of our own shows at St Austell Arts Theatre and Penlee Park, Penzance.

Pirate FM’s St Piran’s Day clip of us singing Harry Glasson's ‘Cornwall my Home’ as a flashmob at Gatwick Airport notched 250,000 hits on ‘YouTube’, and our appearance on October 2016’s Poppy Appeal aboard the “Phoenix” in Charlestown was captured by BBC TV’s ‘Spotlight’.

In August 2025, our thirteenth year, we have released a new CD "Tin & Tide" recorded at Cube Studios near Perranporth which features eight new tracks for £8, four of which are our own arrangements of songs written by Harry Glasson.

Our previous 3 CDs, "First Pressing" , "The GangWay" and "Fiddler's Green" have been great successes, and so far we have raised over £2,000 for the RNLI from our CD sales (£1 of the £5 price goes to the charity) and even more from our concert appearances around the county for the RNLI and other great charities. Why not come and hear us, and join in the fun and the song?
